Today is May 18, 2009. Saturday we went to the gym pool with some friends of ours to swim for the first time this season. (Our pool is still empty). It was Matthew's first real time since last summer and he did exceptional, not that we were concerned at all. He held his own, swam fantastic and was a blast in the pool. The other boys of course did just fine, had a great time with the friends that happen to be there swimming as well and others that came with us. But...
Kamdyn was our concern. I had her in the pool starting her swimming portion of the self rescue lessons I am trained in teaching during the winter. In January she had 2 weeks of lessons, so roughly 10 lessons and did OK, not great but OK. Well she ended up getting sick, got a strange rash that lasted forever and we were worried about getting her back in the indoor pool there at the gym...so we were waiting for summer, anticipating I'ld get her trained here at home...well, needless to say, Saturday we got a glimpse of what our summer will be like. She did so fantastic, Troy and I were both amazed. She cried, screamed for the first 20 or so minutes probably. Eased up a bit, did great on her swim to the wall. Then Troy got in the water and we swam her between us. She loved it. She'd swim to one of our hands, get up and put her hand out to swim back to the other one of us. It was so funny...then...she decided she wanted to sit/jump from the side. She do that, come up and float and then turn over to either swim to the wall or our hand. Well she progressed to full on jumping in, floating and swimming to our hands or the wall. She did this for probably two straight hours. We were so proud of her. It was so fun and we can't wait to see how great she'll do at home. And she is SAFE!!!! We know if she jumps in or falls in or whatever she'll float and swim!!!! What a great thing this self rescue program of ISR is!!!!
